Inheritance of BHC-resistance in the housefly, Musca domestica nebulo Fabr

The genetic nature of BHC-resistance in the Indian housefly, Musca domestica nebulo was studied by reciprocal crosses between individual as well as groups of flies of a BHC-resistant and a susceptible strain of the subspecies. The F1 generation was less resistant than the resistant parents but far more resistant than the normal ones and there was no segregation in the F2 generation. The F1 hybrids were also back crossed with susceptible parents but no evidence for a monofactorial origin of resistance could be found. It was concluded that the inheritance of BHC-resistance in Musca domestica nebulo is controlled by a multiple-gene factor.
