Inheritance of glume pubescence and of the black color of the ear in durum wheat

In spring durum wheat 2 types of glume pubescence were observed, strong pubescence peculiar to varieties with white or red glume color and slight pubescence peculiar to forms with black spikes. Strong pubescence is dominant over slight and incompletely dominant over glabrous. Glume pubescence depends on 2 genes. Black color of the spike depends on 1 genetic factor. The genes for slight pubescence and for black color are linked, with 2.4% crossing over. The forms with slight pubescence and black color in durum wheat are found on the eastern steppe of the Ukraine. These forms seem to be lower in productivity.
