Inheritance of stem rust resistance and other characteristics in diploid oats, Avena strigosa

Inheritance of stem rust resistance and other characteristics in diploid oats, Avena strigosa

Can J Genet Cytol 8(3): 444-450

The inheritance of resistance to a wide range of races of the stem rust fungus was investigated in 2 resistant strains of diploid A. strigosa. CD. 3820 and C.I. 3078. A single dominant gene, present in both strains, conditions resistance to all the races used. Single gene inheritance was also observed for lemma and plant pubescence, basal attachment, growth habit, seed color, and seed cover. An additional gene giving resistance to race 294 or crown rust was found in CD. 7994. The gene for stem rust resistance was linked with a gene for basal attachment with a recombination value of 22[plus or minus]4.5%.
