Investigations into the behavior of sodium, potassium, calcium, mag-nesium, and phosphorus concentrations in serum with particular reter-ence to the relationships between the calcium-serum level and tne electrical systole of clinically healthy sows before, during and after birth

Investigations into the behavior of sodium, potassium, calcium, mag-nesium, and phosphorus concentrations in serum with particular reter-ence to the relationships between the calcium-serum level and tne electrical systole of clinically healthy sows before, during and after birth

Arch Exp Veterinarmed 21(5): 1225-1234

The Na, K, Ca, Mg, and P concentrations of serum determined before, during, and after birth of 50 sows show no significant differences and lie within the range of values found by Hahn during the pregnancy and lactation periods of clinically healthy sows. There exists a strong negative correlation between the frequency (75 to 140 min. -1) and the QT [electrocardiographic waves] time. The statistical processing of the test results did not lead to the decision that there is no linearity between frequency and QT time. The constant K of the Bazett formula is 0. 427 [plus or minus] 0. 023 for clinically healthy sows. Calcium-serum concentrations between 9.1 and 13.6 mg/100 ml correspond to a QT interval of 0. 300 to 0.406 sec (x = 0. 350 [plus or minus] 0.02 sec) adjusted to a frequency of 90 min. -1.
