Les facteurs de la regeneration chez les Annelides

, : Les facteurs de la regeneration chez les Annelides. Rev Suisse Zool 54: 219-235

The author attempts an experimental analysis of regeneration of the head in earthworms. With the aid of a very precise operative technique, he concludes that regeneration necessitates an activation of the tissues of the base by the primitive ganglionic chain acting on a "cephalic territory." There probably exists in the ecto-mesodermal tissues a distinct ventro-dorsal gradient of regeneration that shows several analogies with the vegetative-animal gradient of sea-urchin eggs. The base of the section, however, does not appear to have any immediate organisatory effect on the regeneration. Morphogenesis of the pharynx reveals complex interactions between the endoderm, the mesoderm and the ectoderm, the result of which depends not only on the specific action of each of the primary germ layers, but also on their reaction with one another.
