Abstract
Marine algae have been used for several hundred years as fertilizers in many countries of the world. The salts contained in the algae, trace elements and the growth substances are important constituent substances for this purpose. Of great importance, moreover, is 1 property of the phycocolloids which loosens the structure of the soil. Seaweed fertilizers, in extract form, which are also suitable for spraying have been developed recently and open up interesting commercial aspects.
