Abstract
Terms and definitions of certain groups of marine algae as raw materials, collective nouns and designations for products made of marine algae, agar, agaroid, carrageenan and carrageenates, phycocolloids, gelans, etc. are discussed in accordance with modern literature, in order to provide industry with a useful terminology. In the present stage of the science this list, however, cannot claim to be complete or final; however, it will be a useful tool and guide. Any supplements and suggestions, corrections and alterations, needless to say, will be appreciated by the authors.
