Methods of determining the coefficient D the bag of sables in organized commercial hunting

Between 1941 to 1950, years with different feeding conditions caused the yield of young of the sable to change 2.6% to 48%. To avoid overhunting, the bag should not be higher than the population increase. To determine the kill coefficient D for any hunting season, calculations should first be made of the average number of embryos per female which is determined by autopsies of females caught in spring before reproduction. At the beginning of hunting, a sample of sables is taken for determining the proportion of males, females, and first-year animals. The coefficient of elimination (E) is calculated by the formula.[image].Knowing these values, it is possible to determine the number of young (V) surviving until the beginning of hunting. For efficient exploitation, D should be somewhat smaller than V.
