A study of types in the museum at Paris showed the following synonymies: Gnathonemus lambouri Pellegrin (=G. morii longulus David and Poll); Alestes grandisauamis Boulenger (=A. poptae Pellegrin); Petersius caudalis Boulenger (=P. brumpti Pellegrin); Hemigrammopetersius aurantiacus Pellegrin (=H. trilobatus Pellegrin); H. aurantiacus Pellegrin (=Phena-cogrammus heterodontus Poll); Mesoborus crocodilus Pellegrin (=M. pellegrini Boulenger); Phago intermedius Boulenger (=P. fulica Pellegrin). Types of African fishes of the families listed in the title are discussed.
