Abstract
Empidonomus, a genus of S. Amer. Tyrannids, contains 2 species, E. varius and E. aurantio-atro-cristatus, which differ greatly in adult plumage but the juvenals of which are very similar. The young of both have the plumage of the upper parts like that of the adult E. varius but the under parts of the young E. aurantio-atro-cristatus are more uniform, less streaked than in the young of E. varius; the 2 may be distinguished by this character.
