Observations on stonechat Saxicola torquata rubicola in the northern part of Westfallia
The stonechat inhabits several biotopes and the male defends a territory but obtains food ouside it. In 23 nests the clutch averaged 5.47 eggs of which 3.95 hatched and 3.43 young flew. Only the female incubated. The male fed the young after 3-4 days. The young fledged in 15-17 days. The young of the 1st brood left the area when the young of the 2nd brood hatched.
