Differences in the antomy of the fruit body in M. Silvester and M. himantioides are pointed out. On the basis of the sparse material at hand, it is difficult to decide if they are specifically distinct; they may be forms of a variable sp., though no intermediate forms were observed. M. Silvester is considered specifically distinct from M. lacrymans. The generic name Merulius is retained for the brown-spored spp. of this group.
