The eggs of P. pellucidus were kept in water for one month, but no miracidia hatched. They probably hatch in the body of the mollusk. Styletiform cercariae from Bithynia tentaculata mollusks successfully penetrated the larvae of Cordulia aenea, Libellula quadrimaculata, and Leucorrhinia rubicunda, and, 65-70 days later metacercariae were obtained. The latter were fed to a chicken, and 15 days later 56 parasites were discovered in its bursa Fabricii. Chicks, ducklings, goslings, and adult hens were infected with metacercariae from naturally-infected dragon flies. Periodic autopsies of chicks showed that 10 hours after infection metacercariae were present in the crop; after 1 day, the parasites were found in the bursa Fabricii; after 3 days, the testes of the parasites had developed; and after 6 days all the organs were formed; after 15 days sexually-mature trematodes were discovered. The development of P. pellucidus to the stage of sexual maturity required 8 days in hens, 26 days in goslings, and 42 days in ducklings. Autopsies of 10 rooks and 10 ravens revealed that they were infected by P. pellucidus.
