The existence of a diurnal mitotic cycle in the corneal epithelium of inbred C-strain male mice was investigated. Mitotic activity was significantly greater, statistically evaluated, in the hours after midnight and in the morning than in the afternoon and evening. An apparent negative correlation between the spontaneous activity of the animals and the number of mitoses was perceived. When the spontaneous activity reached a peak, the process of cell division was at a minimum.
