On the question of gamma-globulin therapy of infectious diseases. Passive mouse protection studies with human gamma-globulin

On the question of gamma-globulin therapy of infectious diseases. Passive mouse protection studies with human gamma-globulin

Helv Med Acta 32(6): 593-602

Human gamma-globulin has a significant protective effect on bacterial infections in the mouse by Proteus vulgaris, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Bacterium coli, Bacterium intermedium, Aerobacter aerogenes, Pneumococcus type III, Staphylococcus pyogenes, Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus "Aronson". The gamma-globulin was injected intra-peritoneally at least 7 hours before the challenge dose of bacteria was given. Absorption of gamma-globulin with Streptococcus or Pseudomonas was followed by a loss of the protective activity. Specific antibodies are directly involved in the mechanism of protection.
