The association of P. cinnamomi with the fine roots of littleleaf-diseased shortleaf pine is interesting in view of the observation that the disease is most severe on soils with poor internal drainage. Studies are in progress to determine the role, if any, of P. cinnamomi and other parasitic water molds in littleleaf disease.
