Placentography using radioactive iodinated serum albumin

Placentography using radioactive iodinated serum albumin

Obstet And Gynecol 5(5): 643-645

Five microcuries of radioactive iodinated serum albumin (RISA) were injected into patients near term. Forty-five patients were normal and 5 patients had third trimester bleeding. An effort was made to localize the placenta using a scintillation counter over the abdomen. The accuracy of localization was 94% which compares favorably with X-ray placentography in this country. The hazard of radiation to the fetus is only one-tenth that received by X-ray placentography. Placentography using RISA is a useful diagnostic tool.
