Pulmonal diffusion of CO in normal subjects

A method is presented for determining CO diffusion which is based on re-respiration of a gas mixture of CO, He, O2, N2. In 20 males aged 18-55 years, DLCO [CO lung diffusing capacity] was 30.77 ml/mm Hg/m. In 8 females ages 21 - 58 years it was 24.89 ml/mm Hg/m. The method gives results comparable to those of similar techniques.
