Quantity of excess sludge from oxidation ditches

Quantity of excess sludge from oxidation ditches

Vodni Hospodar 15(8): 351-353

According to the data from literature and results derived by comparison and conversion, the following approximative figures were obtained. Volume of excess sludge was 1 to 1.1 I/capita daily, after consolidation 0.25 1. From 1 kg of BOD5 [Biological Oxygen Demand] removed approximately 560 g of sludge dry solids are produced, from 1 kg of BOD5 supplied about 500 g, farming about 201 of sludge, after consolidation 41. The sludge contains 2.5-2.7%, after consolidation about 12.5% dry solids. The quantity of the sludge dry solids per capita daily amounts to 30 g (even 25 g). These data were derived from the operating results of oxidation ditches with the following design capacities figures in brackets are according to the actual load, oxidation ditch 130 (180), final settling tank 12 to 13 (17), sludge consolidation tank, silo, 35 to 40 (50)l per population equivalent. The figures given can be used for approximate orientation only, with respect to the load of the ditch and the silo capacity.
