Five cases of a type of Graves' disease with ophthalmic symptoms dissociated from thyrotoxicosis were differentiated from 6 cases of classic Graves' disease and 2 normal subjects. The cases showing ophthalmic symptoms collected less I in the thyroid than did the classic group, excreted more I in the urine and the reduction in B.M.R. by I treatment was greater. Hence there was a highly significant negative correlation between the I excretion in the urine and the final B.M.R. after I treatment.
