Continuous sampling of the surface sea-water was made at Nosy Be every day of April 1965 at a station with a depth of 1/2-5 ms. according to the tide. The mean values that are statistically valuable were used to calculate the correlations between the different terms of the primary production: chlorophyll a concentration (mg/m3), rate of uptake of C by the C 14 method (mgC/hr./m3), and value of light energy (ly/min). The most significant correlation exists between productivity and light. Productivity and chlorophyll are correlated only under some special conditions, and chlorophyll and light are well correlated. The test for partial correlation coefficients shows that only light energy changes primary production.
