Three different series of lethal chromosomes were analyzed cytologically and in recombination tests. Series A consisted of lethal chromosomes obtained from irradiation with 900 R of spermatozoa in adult males. Series L I and L VI were obtained after matings 0-3 days and 15-18 days, respectively, after eclosion of males treated as 17 hr.-old larvae, when no other germ cells than spermatogonia are present, with the same dose. Five lethals were associated with aberrations out of 26 chromosomes analyzed in series A. No aberrations were found among 36 tested chromosomes in series L I or among 34 tested in L VI. The chromosomes containing no aberrations were by recombination tests classified as containing 1 or 2 lethals. Two out of 21 chromosomes were considered to be carriers of 2 lethals in series A and 1 and 2, respectively, in series L I and L VI. The distributions of the lethal mutations along the chromosome were similar in the 3 series.
