Certain cases of abaca heart rot in the Philippines are the last stages of bunchy-top. The symptoms of bunchy-top are like those of mosaics and chlorotic diseases. Nematodes, various soil conditions and soil fungi produce bunching of the leaves of abaca differing from that of the bunchy-top transmitted by the aphid, Pentolonia.
