The Shanghai strain of the Aujeszky virus demonstrates its infectious nature following scarification of the skin in the rabbit. To carry out serial passage in this animal it is necessary to utilize the myelon and not the brain. Serial passage by scarification with the infected myelon appears to alternate the virus in the encephalon of the infected rabbit.
