Studies on a riboflavin excreting yeast: n. Require-ments of mineral constituents

Studies on a riboflavin excreting yeast: n. Require-ments of mineral constituents

Jour Science and Indust Res india 14 C(1): 21-23

The qualitative needs of the riboflavin excreting mutant yeast, BY 2, with respect to basic mineral constituents have been evaluated. K, Mg, SO4 and PO4 ions are indispensable for the growth and Ca serves as an accessory growth factor. Absence of SO4 ion in the medium markedly decreases the production of riboflavin. The presence of Fe in the medium increases the production of riboflavin, the optimum concentration being 4-5 [mu]g of iron per 100 cc of the medium.
