Studies on social biology in Taiwan rural life. I. Observation on drinking water supply in some rural areas near Taipeh

Jour Formosan Med Assoc 49(2): 78-82

In 1947 the authors investigated 18 water-supply sources in rural areas near Taipeh, making 4 to 5 chemical and bacteriological tests on each. Of the 79 tests reported, 91.2% was positive on Endo medium, 81% were below the standard for bacterial count, 64.5% were below the chemical standard. In most of the supplies too much ammonia and nitrites were found. Only a few of the supplies seemed fairly good.
