Studies on the Cytospora sheath disease of sugar cane. 2. Studies on the means of infection of Cytospora sacchari Butl

Rept Govt Sugar Exp Sta Taiwan Formosa 7: 53-62

Cuttings may carry the disease, the proportion of infected plants resulting from the planting of cuttings from infected cane bearing a direct relation to the severity of evident infection. Debris of infected cane left in the fields after harvest also may be a serious source of disease and likewise the surface soil of an infested planting may harbor the pathogen in viable state. High proportions of infection (85-95%) may result from ratoons taken from infected plants.
