The pro-tein substances of 8 strains of Listeria monocytogenes were obtained by fractionation. The complement fixation reaction and Ouchter-lony's double-diffusion precipitation were made on all fractions. The complement fixation tests indicated a low serological activity of the protein fractions. The results of the double-diffusion precip-itations showed that the 8 strains may be divided into 2 groups: the first group contains those 2 strains which have the same 2 antigens in the protein fractions; the second group consists of 6 strains which have only 1 antigenic component.
