An extract obtained from pig livers after perfusion with C14-carboxyl-labeled sodium acetate, alkaline hydrolysis, and extraction with pentane was separated into four main fractions by chromatography on alumina. The pentane eluates contained squalene-C14 which after intraperitoneal injection or feeding to rats was converted into cholesterol-C14.
