Studies on the changes of serum cholinesterase activity in immunoreactions. II. On changes of serum cholinesterase activity and tuberculin reaction in rabbits infected with bovine tubercle bacilli

Rabbits were injected with 1 mg of bovine tubercle bacilli subcutaneously. Serum cholinesterase activity and tuberculin reaction were measured weekly before the injection until death. Serum cholinesterase activity was determined by a modification of Takahashi-Shibata method with blood obtained by venous puncture. In most of the cases serum cholinesterase activity was decreased from 4 to 6 weeks after administration of tubercle bacilli, but in some cases no significant changes or even an increase in serum cholinesterase activity were observed. The tuberculin reaction became strong from 3 to 5 weeks after administration of tubercle bacilli, and thereafter became progressively negative till death. Although in some cases the serum cholinesterase activity was decreased and the tuberculin reaction became negative, there was no relationship between the changes of serum cholinesterase activity and tuberculin reaction.
