Abstract
A synthetic diet was developed for studying the growth of Dacus cucurbitae Coquillett larvae under aseptic conditions. The medium consisting of casein, cholesterol, glucose, salt mixture, tryptophan, cystine, lecithin, glutathione, ribosenucleic acid and its bases adenlne, guanine, uracil and thymine, a mixture of 12 B vitamins, agar and water had to be supplemented with 0.5% yeast powder before it could support larval growth under aseptic conditions. The medium was adequate for studying the role of individual nutrients and micronutrients.
