The qualitative roles of vitamins B in the growth and development of Dacus cucurbitae Coquillett larvae were determined by eliminating the individual vitamins from the synthetic diet one by one and compared with the all-vitamin diet. Data were statistically analyzed. Pantothenic acid was the most essential of vitamins tested, whereas folic acid and aneurin were found to be non-essential for the growth of the larvae. The relative importance of other vitamins could be statistically arranged between the pantothenic acid on the one hand, and folic acid, aneurin and the all-vitamin diet on the other.
