Studies on the oxygen consumption in tropical poikilotherms. VI. Effect of starvation on the oxygen consumption of the fresh water field crab Paratelphusa sp

In non-gravid female Paratelphusa total metabolism decreases with progressive starvation. On the 1st and 14th day b values are 0.7449 and 0.7104 respectively. When starvation continues to the 21st day, O2 uptake decreases further in smaller crabs but in larger crabs increases. Decrease in weight is progressive but negligible. Therefore starvation decreases O2 consumption.
