I. Gastric juice played no part in hatching, but upon immersion in intestinal juice at 39[degree]C. the shell disintegrated and the onchosphere, still surrounded by its embryonic membrane, was set free. The arrangement and shape of the hooklets (6-18) are descr. The onchosphere became activated, cast off its embryonic membrane, and moved about by means of its hooklets and by the ameboid body contraction and expansion. In exp. animals the same phenomena were observed as in vitro.[long dash]II. After hatching in the upper part of the small intestine of the pig, the majority of the onchospheres invaded the mucosa at that level 15-48 hrs. after eggs had been fed to the exp. animal. The youngest cysticerci were found in the tunica propria mucosae. On migration to the viscera and muscles within 24 to 72 hours after feeding they measured 24-58[mu] by 21-54[mu] and were greenish in color. Between the 6th and 12th days they were macroscopic, transparent, colorless spots, at first solid, later hollow with a viscous fluid in the cavity. From the 12th day onward they became larger, the cystic fluid was less viscous and the primordium of the head cone had developed. They occurred in the liver parenchyma, various areas of the brain and in somatic and heart muscles. Those that penetrated into the abdominal cavity died.
