Studies on the rhythmicity of hatching in silkworm eggs, Bombyx mori L

Studies on the rhythmicity of hatching in silkworm eggs, Bombyx mori L

Jour Fac Textile Sci And Technol Shinshu Univ Ser E Agric And Sericult 5: 69-123

The hatching phase of silkworm eggs with special concern to the rhythmic character were investigated by the following experiments. The eggs of various races were incubated under the constant conditions for detection of racial differences among rhythmic phases of hatching. Effects of different temperatures, relative humidities and light upon manifestation of the rhythmicity were studied. The expression of the rhythmicity was analyzed by chilling and by alternative treatment of light and darkness for the eggs at various embryonic stages. Various conditions such as light, darkness, warm and cool temperatures were given, singly or combined with each other, to the eggs just before hatching, and the exogenous character in the rhythmicity was investigated.
