Studies on the tetraploids in the genera

Studies on the tetraploids in the genera

Bol Inst Nac Invest Agron 18(38): 49-83

For full development the vegetative period in 2n N. rustica under optimum conditions is 50-70 days and 120-140 days in 4n N. rustica. Feb. to May and Sept. to Dec. are the optimum times of development for both. For 2n N. tabacum the period is 50-70 days, at the end of the spring and the 1st 3rd of the summer. For 4n N. tabacum the period is 110 to 160 days, in May-June, through the summer, and its flowering is in July or September and November. It appears that the tetraploid variety withstands better, or requires for optimum growth, a greater amount of heat than does the diploid variety.
