Study of complexes between ribonucleic acids and inorganic polyphosphates in yeast. I. Presence of inorganic phosphates in the preparation of ribonucleic acids of high molecular weight extracted from yeast

High-molecular ribonucleic acids extracted from yeast often contain extra P from long-chain polyphosphates. The amount of the polyphosphoric P present in the ribonucleic acids depends on the physiological state and especially on the polyphosphate content of the yeast; ribonucleic acids extracted from yeast harvested during the stationary phase contain more polyohosphates than those extracted from yeast harvested in the growing phase. This polyphosphoric contamination is found whatever method is used for ribonucleic-acid extraction (dodecylsulfate or phenol method).
