Stunted growth and the mechanism of its stimulation in mentally disturbed adolescents

Stunted growth and the mechanism of its stimulation in mentally disturbed adolescents

International Journal of Neuropsychiatry 1(4): 313-317

Stimulation of longitudinal growth as produced by small doses of testosterone propionate, chorionic gonadotropin or an anabolic steroid was investigated. Each of these 3 treatment procedures acts similarly by stimulating the pituitary anterior lobe to increased hormone production. On 3 examples it is shown how the endogenously stimulated increased production of hormone acts in patients with stunted growth and retarded development at least as well as treatment with human growth hormone. It is also to be preferred since the availability of HGH is restricted and because HGH could also stimulate pathological processes. Psycho-endocrine aspects are discussed.
