A group of compounds consisting of thion-thiazolidines, thion-oxazolidines, and a thion-thiazoline were tasteless to some persons and very bitter to others. The 3 oxo-thiazolines that were examined did not exhibit this difference, being tasteless to all the subjects. A number of these compounds have been prepd. for the first time, and their synthesis is described. Taste tests were conducted on other S compounds and it is concluded that the "dual taste reaction" accompanies the[long dash]NH[long dash]C = S grouping.
