The ampullae of Lorenzini in P. anguil-laris

The ampullae of Lorenzini in P. anguil-laris

Zool Anz 87(3/6): 49-66

Only a few of the thousands of siluroids are marine, and these are confined to the tropics. The marine forms show certain morphological peculiarities. P. anguillaris contains in the cephalic region, in addition to the organs common to the group, certain sense organs which in structure, development, and innervation correspond to the ampullae of Lorenzini which are found in selachians. These are described in detail. There is an added bibliography.
