The antibiotic action of E coli on M tuberculosis VIII Studies on the chemotherapy of tuberculosis

Arch Exptl Path U Pharmakol 5: 375-388

E. coli has antibiotic action upon M. tuberculosis as proved by the Wright culture method and by the diffusion plate method in direct contact with tubercle bacilli. The activity of living coli bacilli differs; very active strains are rare. They may be kept active in vitro for several yrs. Active E. coli produces bactericidal substances which develop optimal activity in weakly acid medium, are heat-resistant, and may be kept in the incubator for several wks.
