When the symptoms of malnutrition are known to the observer they may be of great aid in diagnosing nutrient deficiencies of soils. Some symptoms are very striking and are regarded as reliable indicators of certain nutrient deficiencies; others are less definite and should be supplemented by laboratory or field tests.
