A study was made of the incorporation of p32 into different fractions of the P-containing compounds except phosphatides. The accuracy of the counts was 1-2%. When relatively low doses of p32 (50-100 ucuries) were used it was possible to ignore the radiation effects of the isotopes. Studies were made of the sensitivity of flax, oats, wheat, mustard, pea, and buckwheat plants to P32 applied to different soils (chernozem, sod-podzolic loam, water cultures) at 0-2 ucuries/kg of soil, using NPK fertilizer in all cases. The most sensitive plant was buckwheat, for which the toxic dose of P32 was 0.36 ucuries/kg of soil; on chernozem the toxic action of P32 was intensified. The application to the soil of stable P decreased the harmful effect of large amounts of P32. Barley, wheat, oats and peas were less sensitive to P32 irradiation. High doses of P32 had no harmful effect on flax and mustard development. The toxic effect of the radiation was manifested in disturbances of the formation of reproductive organs, abnormalities of the growing tip of the main stem, intensified tillering, and, finally, in a yield decrease. Thus, with 0-0.36 [mu]curies, the total yield of buckwheat decreased from 18.4 to 8.0 g of dry substance/pot and the yield of buckwheat seeds from 8.3 to 2.2 g. The rate of seed germination and plant development in the 2nd generation were normal and none of the P32 doses had an effect.
