The effect of salts on cell permeability as shown by studies of milk secretion continued

The effect of salts on cell permeability as shown by studies of milk secretion continued

Proceedings Roy Society london B116(799): 396-402

The correlation between the ratio of Na to diffusible Ca in blood and that of solids-not-fat to fat in milk previously observed for cows of the same breed, has been confirmed for cows of four different breeds. It is probably an important factor in the causation of the marked differences in milk composition which occur among the various breeds. It is suggested that the relative permeability of the mammary gland cell membranes to lipoid and non lipoid milk precursors is regulated by the salts of the blood.
