Inanition following total body X-irradiation is sufficient to produce qualitatively all the tissue changes observed in irradiated animals with the possible exception of the effect on the liver and spleen. These changes include damage to the kidneys and testes and hypertrophy of the hypophysis and adrenals. However, the degree of injury in the pair-fed animals (feeding the control animals the amt. of food eaten by irradiated animals) is not as great as in irradiated animals.
