The movements of the small intestine

The movements of the small intestine

Japan Med World 9(5): 155-165

From experiments on dogs and cats it is concluded that the automatic movements of the muscles of the small intestine are independent of Auerbach's plexus, i.e., myogenic; the peristaltic movements are intimately and inseparably connected with the plexus; the pendular movements can be elicited independently of it; embryologically it is difficult to decide whether the automatism of the intestine is neurogenic or myogenic.
