The occurrence in lichens of folic acid, folinic acid, and vitamin B group of factors

Cladonia silvatica, Umbilicaria pustulate, Parmella physodes, P. furfuracea, Cetraria islandica, Evernia prunastri, Alectorla iubata, and Usnea comosa were studied with bio-autographic methods, using Escherlchia coli 113-3. Leuconostolc citrovorum Atee 8081, and Streptococcus faecalls ATee 8043 as test organisms. Two other factors besides folinic acid and thymidine were found for L. citrovorum. Low vit. B12 activity of lichen extracts was due to vit. B12 vit. B12S and factor C. Vit. B12S was found heretofore only in marine algae. Several derivs. of folic acid were found.
