The persistence of lindane-chlorinated terphenyl residues on outdoor foliage

The persistence of lindane-chlorinated terphenyl residues on outdoor foliage

Jour Econ Ent 47(2): 332-335

The residual effectiveness on outdoor foliage of a relatively volatile insecticide such as lindane may be enhanced by depositing mixtures of lindane and a commercially available chlorinated terphenyl. Satisfactory applications cannot be made from oil solns., which tend to penetrate the leaf surface, or from stable emulsions, which are easily removed by wash-off. Effective applications from emulsions containing low-boiling ketones as the oil phase can be made if the water phase contains a fairly high concn. of a water-soluble material such as a high conversion corn syrup, and if either the emulsifying agent readily decomposes or an unstable emulsion is used.
