Abstract
This work was based on data collected in 1952-54. In the first few years of the existence of the Rybinsk Reservoir, during the period when the soils had a pronounced effect on the chemical composition of the water, the principal mass of zooplankton during the summer was found to be strictly adapted to a narrow surface layer. As the reservoir became older, the chief effect on the vertical distribution of the plankton was exerted by other factors, as a result of which the maximal concentrations of all the principal mass forms were displaced to deeper layers. This is a general phenomenon in reservoirs of plains.
