The experiments were carried out by the Lugansk Agricultural Institute in 1957 and 1958. Treatment of the seeds with a boric acid solution before sowing had a favorable effect on the development of the reproductive organs of the corn; the treatment increased the number and vitality of pollen grains and their fertilizing ability. Moistening the hybrid seeds of the F1 generation obtained from parent forms also subjected to treatment with boric acid solution increased the grain yield by up to 50%. Presowing treatment of the seeds of the F2 hybrid of the varieties VIR 42 and Slava produced a yield almost as good as that of the F1 seeds.
